Gotrax GXL V2 Electric Scooter Review-Updated 2023

When the Gotrax electric scooter company launched the new version of the Gotrax GXL V2 commuting electric scooter, the company was determined that buyers would start to love its journey. And they were correct.

The GXL became a popular choice and the coveted best electric scooter on Amazon so much. So the Gotrax scooter company decided to offer an improved version of it, which is called the Gotrax GXL V2 commuting electric scooter (or version 2).

The Gotrax GXL V2, released in 2019, is an improved version of the GXL commuters. The V2 has dropped in price and is now the king of the under $300 category.

However, it has the same disc brakes and pneumatic tires that we liked about the original model with a slight upgrade. Unlike the original version, the rear disc brakes are now activated by a hand lever (like a bicycle) and not a toe pedal—a significant improvement. The GXL V2 also has a strong rear clamp that is tougher than the original.

At this price, the GXL V2 competes with so-called brands that pop up on Amazon. We like that the Gotrax GXL V2 commuting electric scooter has the support of Gotrax, a legal company, to stay here.

Gotrax electric scooter GXL v2 comes with a 250-watt brushless DC motor that grants you smooth acceleration. At this price, the motors usually do not exceed 250 watts.

The scooter lacks the zero start feature, which means you have to kick it for about 3 kmh before the motor starts. The GXL V2 reaches its max speed with 74 kg weight on a flat surface in just 10 seconds.

This speed is enough for many people, but this scooter is a little bit slow for you if you want more speed.

Hill Climb

This best scooter completes the hill climb test (60m with 74 kg weight) in just 20.9 seconds. During this test, the max speed of this scooter is 10.5 kmh. This scooter is a tough competitor of the XIAOMI M365, which completes the test in just 20.8 seconds with a maximum speed of 10.6 kmh.

The GXL V2 has light hill performance, but keep in mind that access to steep hills will be minimal.

Keep in mind; if you have a 100 kg weight, it will impact the scooter performance like hill climb, range, top speed, and acceleration.

Top Speed

Keep in mind the top speed has dependent on the rider’s weight. The builder of this best scooter claimed that this scooter has a 26 kmh top speed.

But in our top speed test, this scooter reaches 21.7 kmh top speed with 74 kg weight on flat ground. But if you have less weight, then you can achieve the claimed top speed.

This scooter arrived 16.3 km with a full charge during our range test, but the manufacturer’s claimed range is 19 km.

Our range test is performed on a standard urban loop with repeated stops/starts, hills, rough terrain, and the same 74kg rider. We ride the scooters as soon as it’s safe and in the fastest, least energy-saving mode. This test provides a very sensible survey of the range in strict test conditions.

Keep in mind that cold temperatures, hills, frequent stops, and high speeds will reduce all range. If you run out of battery power, this best scooter is light enough, and the deck is low enough that it will work like a normal kick scooter.

This scooter comes with a 187-watt hour lithium-ion battery pack which makes it a long-range electric scooter.

The GXL V2 has a dual braking system. The front regenerative brake is decent, but the rear brake is a disc brakes.

According to our (21 kmh to 0) braking test, this scooter’s stopping distance is 5.0 meters.  If we compare this scooter with any other excellent scooters, the braking distance is much better.

Unlike the original GXL passenger, the rear disc brakes are now powered by a traditional, easy-to-use hand lever. It is more natural and allows you to ride in different positions.

We also like that it increases safety by allowing your left hand always to be ready to apply the brakes.

Gotrax scooter company did a fantastic job of adding disc brakes to electric scooters at this price point. Many other opponents (and even more) have only one brake system and are often inaccurate at this price point.

Ride Quality

Overall, the GXLV2 is a fun and agile scooter to ride. Its tires are large enough to handle many common road risks, but they are not large enough to be heavy.

The GLX V2 has no suspension, so it comes with all wet pneumatic tires. On smooth roads, the ride quality is impressive. On rough roads, tires will eat up a lot of bumps.

However, scooters have not been used on dangerous roads for a long time. Most vibrations will be transmitted to your hands and feet, which can be painful and excruciating.

This scooter is perfect for you if you spend a lot of time on an excellent straight road.

Build Quality

The build quality of the Gotrax GXL V2 commuter scooter is incredible when you think about the price. You can’t expect a range of electric scooters (especially since the price of some in the market is 5x higher), but it’s enough for the goal.

As a travelling scooter, it needs to be long-lasting and strong enough for everyday use, and it is such a long-range electric scooter.

Fenders are made of plastic, which feels as strong as it sounds. They won’t scratch or break without a fight, and it’s a good idea to have a passenger scooter.

The GXL V2 has a foldable frame. Being a foldable scooter, you would expect it to be challenging to get down and adjust, but there is none.

You can stir it with a little more leaching mechanism than you want, but once it is detected, it holds the folding scooter firmly in place so that it can be carried around without any problems.

At 12kg, the GXL passenger V2 scooter is as light as the MIM365 scooter.

It folds down rapidly and locks in length from 99 cm to 43 cm to 36 cm. Although the handles do not attach to the bar, it is easy to throw behind the car, keep upstairs, and slip under a desk at work.

The handlebars follow the minimalist design of the scooter and offer some nifty things in it. First, there is a bright and beautiful LED display for speed and battery information.

The right thumb-operated nubuck acts as an accelerator. The light and gear buttons are in the centre of the handlebar. It has a small LED headlight on the front and lets you shift gears.

The scooter has a front-facing LED light and a rear-facing reflector but no taillights. Like other scooters, the LED is not very bright.

To travel at night, we recommend attaching additional front and rear lights. Learn more about accessories to improve your visibility.

The GXLV2 has dual 21.6 cm pneumatic (inflated) inner tube tires. Pneumatic tires will give enough bounce for a relaxed ride, despite the loss of suspension.

Pneumatic tires also have the advantage of performing better in wet conditions than solid tires. Solid tires are usually very slippery in wet conditions.

Despite the advantages of pneumatic tires, they also have a downside: the possibility of flat tires. We think the benefits outweigh the risks. In addition, most flats can be stopped or easily repaired.

The GXL’s deck has a 15.2 cm fence of 47.2 cm, which is generous for small scooters. This allows you to get a comfortable position on the scooter with a slight extension.

The height of the deck to handlebar is 94 cm. GXL V2 has a 10 cm ground clearance.

Charging Time

The scooter is packed with a 36V, 5.2 Ah lithium-ion battery that charges in 4-5 hours. You’ll be able to see the battery life on the LED display in the middle of the handlebar if you need a certain amount for a short trip.

Weight Limit

The maximum weight is only 220 pounds. Although it seems to be the maximum standard weight for most personal electric vehicles, and when they say it is “maximum weight” it usually means that it is more than enough to operate.

Overweight you might be able to escape with an extra 10 or 20 pounds, but you probably won’t be able to keep up. Excess weight can also affect its ability to lean.

Off-Road use

The V2 is a great scooter, but can it be used on the road?

Yes, a little, but don’t expect too much. Larger rubber air tires should handle hard dirt and some gravel compared to other electric scooters for travel, but don’t buy this scooter to ride in the woods.

The GXL V2 scooter comes with a three-month warranty on both the scooter and the batteries.

Safety Certificate

It comes with UL2271 certified e-scooter batteries and is of excellent quality. You can ride a little easier knowing that you are running on batteries that will not come out prematurely and they are safe and underwriter lab certified.

Of course, for your safety, I would recommend an electric scooter helmet and knee/elbow pads when I ride, but it’s up to you whether or not you wear them. The front and rear brakes work well and increase safety.

Here’s Why Riders Are Loving It

  • Decent Tires

Don’t expect it to end easily. Pneumatic tires also mean ease of travel to different regions.

  • Dual Braking System

Makes it very easy to stop quickly and safely

  • Speed

It’s too fast for a scooter in this price range. It may not be the fastest on the market, but it is also the fastest for the Xiaomi price. And the speed is too fast to get to the city.

  • Foldable

It’s foldable, so it’s easy to store or move around indoors. Folding the best electric scooters are always good for public transport.

  • Range

Gotrax GXL v2 commuter scooter suggests a range of more than 12.5 miles, but I would probably suggest closer to 10 (depending on your weight, speed, travel, etc.) It’s still great for a single charge, and the charging time is fast.

  • Dual brake system
  • Strong build quality
  • Easy to fold and portable

  • Some complaints about battery life

  • Is it waterproof or resistant?

It is water-resistant from continuous, direct splash. There are no waterproof e-scooters. If someone drowns for a while, they will not work.

  • How fast does it run?

The V2 in front of the 250W hub motor reaches 25 km / h (15.5 m / h) with powerful speed. Interestingly, we have seen the Gotrax GXL V2 commuter scooter reach speeds of up to 29km / h (18m / h) with adult rides.

  • Is there a minimum speed?

There is a nice safety feature on the accelerator. The scooter will not move unless pushed, which is about two mph the electric motor will power the wheels after that. So I think the minimum speed is around 2-3 mph which is like walking.

Where to Buy

It is available on Amazon.com. It’s also available on the official website, although I personally prefer Amazon for free shipping, great prices and reliable customer service. It’s worth visiting the listing on Amazon just to check out user reviews.

Comparison between V1 vs V2

If you discuss whether to go with GXL V2 or real V1, we got the answers. Here are the key differences.

The GXL V2 has a hand-operated disc brake, and the V1 has a foot-operated disc brake, which we prefer.

The GXL V2 has a beef-up rear fender that is less likely to break.

When both are sold, the  V1 is $30 less expensive than the V2. We think the V2 is a much better scooter for extra money.

Basically, there are some improvements to the V2 that make a great scooter even better. We choose to spend extra money to get them, but you may not. One thing to note is that if you want a V1, you’ll bounce it off quickly. We’ve heard from GoTrax that they’re dimming the V1 and replacing it with the V2.

If you’re bound because you don’t know which scooter to take, building a Gotrax GXL V2 commuter scooter shouldn’t be a difficult choice.

A well-built low-budget best electric scooter with luxuries like pneumatic tires and hand-operated rear disc brakes is what you get when you spring this scooter.

Its size and fold design meet urban landscaping requirements.

Folded, at work, on the bus or train, and inside a large bag or suitcase, small enough to fit under your desk.

You may not have seen the most powerful best electric scooter ever, but for the price, the Gotrax GXL V2 Handbrake Edition is a scooter worthy of your attention.
